The Boyscouts of America (BSA) has a long standing tradition of supporting the United States and its laws.  The laws of the US are based on The Consititution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights.  The 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights affirms that "...the right of the people, to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."  As we have seen in the last few years, there has been numerous attempts to infringe on that right by numerous government agencies and private corporations.  Federal and State agencies have made attempts at trying to keep us from carrying arms for our defense.  Section 14 of the BSA policy on Unauthorized and Restricted activities states that,
Except for (1) law enforcement officers required to carry firearms within their jurisdiction, and (2) circumstances within the scope of the BSA hunting policy statement, firearms should not be in the possession of any person engaged in camping, hiking, backpacking, or any other Scouting activity other than those specifically planned for target shooting under the supervision of a certified firearms instructor.

This is a petition to change that policy to allow lawful carry by law abiding citizens.  It has been proven time and again that law abiding citizens are just as safe as any other when it comes to firearms.  And as a citizen generally carries their sidearm daily, they are more familiar with firearms and the safe operation and carry of them as well.
