Carlton School District Petition

Opened on June 27, 2010

PETITION
Carlton School District

FACTS:

  • The Carlton School District is in Statutory Operating Debt (“SOD”).
  • The Minnesota Department of Education stated at the June 17, 2010 meeting this is the District’s last chance before the District is forced to dissolve.
  • The Carlton School Board is currently working on a SOD financial recovery plan.
  • The Superintendent with whom the District intends to contract, will cost the District approximately $140,000 per year for three years (commencing July 1, 2010) when there are other viable, less expensive options.
  • If the School District is dissolved, the taxpayers of this District will still be responsible for the some $1.8 million in district debt, in addition to the likelihood of having to pay through the three year contract for this superintendent and still have to pay another school district’s taxes for students from our district who are forced to attend school in a neighboring district.
  • A petition, expressing constituent disapproval with financial irresponsibility will inform the School Board that the constituents desire to save the School District substantial costs by withdrawing the Superintendent's contract and choosing another more fiscally responsible option.

STATEMENT:
We, the constituents of Independent School District #93, Carlton Schools agree that the Carlton School Board should act without delay, to withdraw the new superintendent’s contract and seek viable interim options.
