We urge you to support the passage of the Cleveland Transformation Plan.
As members of Students For Education Reform at The Ohio State University, as graduates of Ohio public schools, and as advocates for quality education, we have seen how Cleveland schools have continually failed their students and families. We cannot afford to fail them again.
Successful passage of Ohio SB 335 / HB 525 would enact many tested and proven reforms. Under Mayor Jackson’s plan, our community will have the resources it needs to foster a high performing school district that protects and rewards its most effective teachers and principals. It would allow administrators to implement policies blueprinted off of high performing models, thereby dramatically increasing the number of students who will gain access to a quality education. The plan would also install a fairer funding structure for top performing charter schools, as well as give the district more financial sustainability by giving it the autonomous flexibility to allocate its resources to programs that fills the immediate needs of its students.
The Cleveland community needs help, and the education reform movement resoundingly supports the passing of this bill. The voices of administrators, students, and the teachers union have spoken; the time to fight for Cleveland schools is now.
