Petition against early closing hours for pubs & clubs in Galway

Dear The Public,

This is a petition in relation to the new early closing time of pub's & Club's in Galway City. 

Recently the Galway superintendent has decided to clamp down on Club's and Late bars around Galway City. Sunday to Thursday club hours are now 1.00 a.m. as apposed to the usual 2.00 a.m. closing time which has always been the case in Galway. 

We all have many good friends in the industry from club owners to floor staff and I fear I’m going to be seeing less of them in the clubs and pubs and more of them in the Social Welfare Offices if this law is going to continued to be enforced. Surely common sense has to prevail or will the government have to intervene when publicans and club owners cant afford to pay there rates, the VAT payments for the said industries drop dramatically etc etc, its a huge downward spiral which is going to effect every business in the town associated with late night trade not to mention the knock on effect it will have on trade in general in the city as time goes by. 

I really hope people feel as strongly as I do about this, I know there are loads of us out there but I think its time this becomes not just a local issue but a national one before it gets too late. Hopefully the local media will start the ball rolling for us soon, I ENCOURAGE anyone who feels like me to get in contact with our 3 local newspapers and 2 radio stations and have YOUR say, people will listen if we speak loud enough.
