Give us the right to choose our own care

On Vancouver Island, Home Support Service is contracted out to only one Home Care Provider!

What this means is, if you or your loved ones require government financial assistance, you do not retain the right to choose your Home Care Provider. VIHA has awarded a business contract to one Home Support Service and that's who will be sent to your home or hospital, whether you like it or not. You have NO CHOICE!

We believe this intimate, personal service is not about business and contracts. Island Home Care believes that everyone should have the right to choose their own Home Care Provider.

We wouldn't put up with being told which doctor we were allowed to visit, because the government gave them a contract! Low income parents requiring a child care subsidy are able to choose their own Child Care Provider. The same should apply to Home Care! Can you imagine being told that you had no choice in who is caring for your children? Why do we allow that for our parents and grandparents?!

Island Home Care is fighting to eliminate Home Support Contracts altogether, and give Vancouver Island citizens the right to choose.

We need to let our Ministry of Health and VIHA know that we want our right to choose. With your help, Island Home Care endeavors to change this unfair policy, and put the power back in your hands!
