Compulsory inspection and testing of electrical wiring and appliances in all private rented homes

This petition calls for:

1) Legislation to make periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations and appliances compulsory in all types of private rented homes  paid for by landlords. Annual testing of gas installations and appliances is mandatory why not testing of electrics.

2) A competent persons scheme for electricians carrying out inspection and testing of electrical installations, similar the Building Regulations 'Part P' scheme.

3) Tenants to be provided with copies of inspection and testing reports.

4) Encourage landlords to upgrade consumer units to ones with RCD protection and to provide plug-in RCDs for appliances especially any likely to be used outside. Encourage landlords to have annual routine check reports conducted in accordance with IEE Guidance Note 3.
