Kiteboarding is the fastest growing sport and now an Olympic sport in 2016.

Melbourne and its beaches offer some of the best spots for kitesurfing in the country. Altona is one of them!

The Kite zone on the main beach attracts hundreds of kiteboarders each summer and creates business as well as a positive image for Altona as an up and coming suburb of Melbourne.

We, KSS Altona, are a local business operating as a surf shop and kiteboarding school. Hobson Bay Council still denies our permit to use Altona beach (Apex park end) for teaching with our kiteschool. By not allowing us to teach at our local beaches, we are unable to provide the skills and services to promote safe and sustainable kiting in our community. KSS as a Kiteschool/Shop, located in Railway Street South since November 2011, have brought in excess of 500 customers last season into the area from everywhere around Melbourne. Whilst here, they spend money and get to know this growing suburb with its beaches, cafes and shops.

By teaching at Altona beach we make sure that people learn how to do this sport in a safe way and we could work as an intermediatary between council, shop owners and the rapidly growing kiteboarding community as well as the state kiteboarding body (KBV) and national kiteboarding association (AKSA). This would help with the opportunity for community events and other activities to make the most of what Altona and Hobson’s Bay has to offer and  would be of great benefit to local shops, residents and kiters from Altona and around Australia.

By signing this petition you support KSS Altona to create business in Altona by bringing customers and running events, make kitesurfing safer at our beaches and creating a more positive image for Altona! We would like to make kitesurfing a key part of Altona and with your support we can make this happen.
