Today a presenter on BBC's Breakfast TV, Dan Walker, first said the town of Ilford was in Norfolk and then Essex. Actually we are in the London Borough of Redbridge and have been since 1965 when we were incorporated via the London Local Government Act. Our cultural identity and our passions are now very different from people living in Essex and even further removed from the far reaches of Norfolk. Please join our campaign for a London Postcode for Redbridge.
A London postcode is very possible and Stratford Village recently attained the newest London Postcode. I cannot help but think if we had a London postcode in 2012 that we would have not have been ignored as a potential Olympic venue. Moreover, a Lonodn postcode would increase house prices and commercial growth. Read this BBC News article from 2005 (click here)
We the undersigned residents of Redbridge demand Redbridge Council enacts the process required to introduce a London postcode for Redbridge.
We believe businesses suffer due to being ignored by large corporations outside of London mistaken about the location of Redbridge.
We are also proud of our London identity and no longer want to cling to an Essex past that is no longer relevant to our community.
