On the 21 July 2008, Peter Garrett, then the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, disallowed a development on \'Lot 66\' on the basis that it would have “clearly unacceptable\' impacts on the endangered Cassowary at Mission Beach.  A new development application, not much different to the original one was situated in the middle of a landscape scale corridor connecting critically endangered littoral rainforest to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

The corridor is now known as  \'Garrett Corridor\'

On 15th July the latest proposal was withdrawn before the  federal minister announced a decision.  The developer has said he will continue to lodge new applications in an effort to recoup his investment.  The application lodged ahead of the 2031 Plan with the local Council is also still current and to be determined against state legislation and local planning scheme.

Lot 66 will not be secure from more habitat clearing until it is aquired and
placed into National Park or equivalent, in perpetuity protection.

Polititians, the community, many interest groups and individuals including the land owner are united in the call for Buyback for Lot 66.

We now have more time to impress our concerns to  the minister.

We ask the Federal Minister for the Environment, Hon Tony Burke to use his power under the EPBC Act to protect Garrett Corridor by denying any development on Lot 66 and to contribute significant funding for a voluntary buyback of Lot 66.
