Hello and thank you for visiting this website. This petition is being created in hopes
that Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia will see the need to extend
their Social Work Program and begin providing a Master’s Degree Program
in Social Work in addition to their already successful Bachelor’s Degree.
Social Work is a growing field and one that will always be needed in our
community. It is important to provide the highest level of education to Social
Workers and by creating a Master’s Program at Marshall University it will allow
many more students to further their education and achieve a higher degree
of excellence in Social Work.
**Background on Marshall: The Bachelor’s Program at Marshall University was
created in 1967 and has gained accreditation through the CSWE over 20 years
ago. Since the creation of the Bachelor’s Program in Social Work (BSW),
Marshall University has continuously provided a quality education
for future social workers.
Keep in mind that Social Workers touch the lives of everyone from infants
when they are first born, to at-risk youth, struggling parents, the elderly,
and many more! For this very reason many of the current Juniors and
Seniors in Marshall BSW program as well as up and coming Social Work
students have showed a great interest in having a Master’s program at
Marshall, and also with the crucial need for Social Workers in our Appalachian
region, creating the Master’s Program would be a great benefit to the
ongoing improvement of social justice, education, compassion, and well-
being of our community.
Please sign this petition to be presented to the Dean of Marshall University
and other faculty in hopes to create a Masters Program in Social Work and
help us advocate for a better tommorow !
