Oppose Ban on Firearms at the NH State House

Opened on December 22, 2009 | Contact Petition Author

Oppose Ban on Firearms at the NH State HouseIn a surprise action, various anti-liberty lawmakers in Concord acted behind closed doors to ban guns and knives at the State House, the Legislative Office Building, the Upham Walker House, legislative parking garages and lots, and any other facility that the Legislature controls. In a partisan, 8-3 vote, progressive Democrats sitting on the Joint Committee on Legislative Facilities today used a policy-making authority for legislative buildings to impose their out-of-touch and unconstitutional agenda on citizens, lawmakers and state office workers who would want to protect themselves from criminals who might try to harm them in these buildings. Section 2(a) of the New Hampshire constitution clearly protects the right to bear arms. Tell these legislators that they must obey the civil rights of all New Hampshire citizens to keep and bear arms, including at the State House and Legislative Office Buildings!

Sean Murphy28Keene, NHThe right to arms is the difference between free men and slaves. Are these people our owners to deprive us of arms in their presence? By what right do they think they can use force to keep peaceable people from acting in a peaceable manner.

Denis Goddard40Hopkinton, NHWe don't give up our right to free speech when we enter the State House -- why should we give up our right to self defense?

James Forsythe-Strafford, NHA bill to do this (HB1354) was defeated 279 to 19 in 2008. This is despicable that despite overwhelming opposition by the State House, 8 Reps would over-rule that, with no public hearing. This is a gross violation of article 2-a.
Andrew J. Manuse30Derry, NHThe Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and Article 2a of the New Hampshire constitution says very clearly that the people have the right to bear arms. What about that do these progressive tyrants not understand? Do we need to go up there to Concord with torches and effigies instead?
Bradley Jardis29Hooksett, NHAnyone who voted in support of this horrendous rule should be shamed publicly. Firearms rights are core to a free society and these authoritarians show they are opponents to freedom.
Jane Aitken-New HampshireThis was a despicable, sneaky move by the majority on the housekeeping (basically that's what it is) committee! This shall not stand and these people will not be re-elected. It will be made known what they have done.
