Ogden Canyon
(Huntsville Pineview Dam to Ogden)
Regular Release Petition
The following supporters are petitioning for the Bureau of Reclamation to release Pine view dam (Huntsville, Utah) on a regular weekly interval of 200-250 CFS (Cubic Feet Per Secont). We the people believe that a regular release will increase tourism and commerce. By controlling the water level during weekdays and at night, the BLM can maintain a surplus of water that can be used for a weekend releases.
The American White Water website (https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1863/) a private forum for water gauges and river descriptions, classifies lower Ogden safe to boat at a minimal level of 200 -250 cfs. If the Bureau of Reclamation would allow regular releases of 250 cfs boaters from surrounding areas would travel for a guaranteed class IV-V run. With an influx of tourism, commerce would directly rise. Current outdoor retailer’s sales will increase, enticing other outdoor retailers to open storefronts in Ogden. When Businesses move into an area, the county and city tax surplus increases, which in turn can be used to improve our community. Other tourism services such as kayaking tours / lessons will be able to open. Community clubs and programs can be started to teach children and teen to roll a kayak and proper white water safety. The creation of these clubs will teach teens a skill that they can carry on to other occupations like CPR.
If you believe in our plan to get regular releases please support us by signing our petition for the Bureau of Reclamation. Any kind support will be greatly appreciated. The word of mouth is a powerful tool, the larger the group of supporters the more likely we will be able to achieve our goal.
