Preamble

The modern Jewish, democratic State of Israel is the culmination of a 2000 year old common dream of the Jewish Diaspora, established upon the existential pillar of serving as a refuge for all of World Jewry.

Israeli olim-by-choice, most of who have immigrated to Israel from North and South America, Europe, and South Africa, serve as the human bridge between Israel and the greater Jewish world, and are Israel's strongest advocates both within its borders and abroad. Yet it is her idealistic foreign-born citizens whom have found themselves sidelined by Israeli policy makers, and forced to realize their Zionist dreams against many unnecessary hurdles in the absorption process.

The common negative experiences of olim-by-choice lends to a distress in ties between Israel and the greater Jewish World, as Israel's greatest advocates become embittered and disheartened in the actualization of their Zionist dream. Israel and the Jewish World are mutually inclusive, and as such, cannot afford the widening gap caused by short sighted policy and coalition politics. This gap is creating an existential threat, and as such, must be reconciled in order to secure the future of Israel and the Jewish People.

This petition will bring to public light the unfortunate situation facing olim in Israel today. It is intended to create change by way of easing the process of absorption into Israel, making Israel into more accepting place for all stream of Judaism  and thus attempt to repair the widening and dangerous gap between Israel and the Jewish World.

Petition

Esteemed President, Prime Minister and Members of Knesset,

We are Olim-by-choice, World Jewry, and Israeli citizens.

We support the following policies, intended to provide olim with an easier and more successful adjustment into Israeli society; and to ensure that Israel continues to be a home and a haven to all Jews, both within Israel and world-wide:

1. Rabbinate

A. Enactment of uniform and universal criteria of rabbinate authentication of Judaism, and Jewish rituals based upon a pluralistic Jewish platform.

B. Legal acceptance of all universally accepted streams of Judaism and legitimacy of conversion into Judaism through these said streams (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox) upon making Aliya.

C. Installation of an external objective watchdog to ensure accountability of the Israeli rabbinate to olim and the general public.

2. Integration of Olim into Israeli society

A. Overhaul and update of curriculum and framework of the Ulpan to ensure efficiency and maximize benefits to all olim.

B. Courses on adjustment into Israeli society: Civics and introduction into Israeli society.

C. Introduction to Israeli bureaucracy

• Short, all inclusive directory and information book.


• Courses in all major areas of working with bureaucracy (personal, business, students, children, who to inform if we leave, etc…).

We thank you for your dedicated and continued support and effort in actively working to reunite Israel with the greater Jewish World, through implementation of effective policy to enhance the successful acclimation and absorption of olim in Israel.
