We Should Do More to Help People with a Deteriorating Organ

Thank you for showing an interest in my petition. Boosting the number of organ donors and supporting those in need of an organ is something I feel very strongly about! People like you are suffering or have suffered from a deteriorating organ, like Bethany Dawson, pictured below and there is so much we could do to help but just choose not to. I hope that after you have read a bit about Bethany’s story you will understand the severity of the situation and feel as though you want to help.

Here is Bethany’s story........

Bethany, aged one, desperately needs a liver and bowel transplant. Without it, doctors say that she will not live to see her second birthday. Bethany was born with a condition called gastroschisis, which affects about one in 5,000 children, this is when the bowels and intestines develop outside the body; and before Bethany had reached her first birthday she had already been through 15 operations.

In most cases, the bowels can be reinserted into the correct body cavity. However, Bethany has suffered complications, including a lack of blood supply to the intestines, and while surgeons struggled to repair the damage, she eventually developed liver disease.

She was put on the transplant waiting list earlier this year. To make matters worse, she requires a full liver and bowel transplant instead of just a liver or partial liver transplant. For Bethany’s parents, a donor cannot come soon enough. But just to prove how serious Bethany’s condition is, to get onto the transplant waiting list, a child must have a maximum life expectancy of only three to six months.

Thank you again for taking time to read my petition. Please sign my petition if you think more should be done to support and help those with a failing organ.

Please think what you could do.
