South Okanagan for Alternative Route is appealing to the court of public opinion.(in cooperation with Heritage Hills/Laksehore Highlands Residents association)

We are asking for your help to have Fortis BC move the high voltage transmission lines(130 ft high poles) and wires from the existing right of way to the alternate route. many residential areas are affected, areas where the right of way was purchased long before the area was developed and became residential. We are in favour of upgrading the transmission line as a necessity but not by endangering health and property values. These poles are tripling in height and the transmission lines are increasing from 1 line ( 3 wires) of 161 kv to 2 lines ( 6 wires) of 230 kv.The Okanagan valley is renowned for its scenic beauty, to have such conspicus high steel poles is a form of visual pollution which is detrimental to the ambience of the scenic Okanagan Valley. Not only are the poles intrusive, but the noise generated from the power surging through them is electrifying. The power lines restrict growth by limiting the available land for development which reduces housing starts, impacting expansion and much needed revenue for the RDOS and the city. The power lines pose possible health risks from EMF and Carona Ion pollution, invoking the precautionary principle and moving the lines to the alternate route is the only safe way to go.Studies have shown that property values can be impacted by 10-20%.Tsawassen is the proof.
