Future’s proposal to expand provision at Pimlico Academy to include a primary school onsite is currently in the planning application stage.

Please support our proposal to offer local families the high quality state education they want for their children by signing our Pimlico Primary petition.  In 'location' please enter your postcode.

By signing this petition, you are supporting the application made to Westminster City Council (ref. 12/05495/FULL) regarding the construction of a new non-denominational primary school within the site of the existing Pimlico Academy.

We want to take this opportunity to remind you of the plans and benefits of expanding provision at Pimlico Academy to include Pimlico Primary.

Increasing Choice

Pimlico Primary will increase local parents’ choice of schools for their children.  At present, there are only two non-denominational schools.  As a result, many local parents struggle to get a place for their child in a local non-denominational school.  There are currently no all-through schools in South Westminster.

Significant Demand for an All-Through, Non-Denominational School

The response to our recent consultation, which targeted 18,000 stakeholders and included residents, teachers, parents and local community groups, is very positive: 78.9% of respondents support our proposal to set up Pimlico Primary.

Planning for a Positive Impact: the Expansion of an Outstanding School

The proposed location and design will minimise the impact on both current students and local residents.  Design and plans for the school have specifically taken the following into account:

  • The best location: the proposed location and building design make best use of existing space. The Department for Education support the location and design of the school, which they believe is highly suitable and cost effective.

  • Retaining open space at Pimlico Academy: the proposed design is carefully integrated with the existing Academy building extending 35m along Lupus Street.

  • Protecting existing trees: the proposed design does not require the removal of any mature trees.

  • Making walking to school a possibility: families currently face the prospect of commuting out of the area for school provision.  Pimlico Primary gives families the option of walking to school.  Our proposed travel plan would ensure that the increased numbers of children on the site would not create traffic disruption. Our plan to stagger the start and end of the primary and secondary school day further reduces the risk of local congestion.

  • Continuing provision for the community: our design allows for the continued provision of sports facilities for community users outside of school hours.  Existing provision will be maintained by floodlighting the netball court on the Academy’s courtyard.

A careful and extensive search for possible sites preceded the development of plans to situate Pimlico Primary on the Academy’s site.  Creating an all-through education on a shared site is educationally advantageous:

  • It enables access to brand new high quality facilities not normally offered at primary level.

  • It creates a smooth transition from primary to secondary provision.

  • It facilitates sharing of staff expertise and resources, improving educational standards and minimising costs.

  • It supports strong relationships with families which increases educational achievement.
