Dear Seattle School Board Members,
We the undersigned parents, teachers and members of the Seattle and Ingraham High School Community, petition you to reinstate Martin Floe as principal for the next school year. His termination by Dr. Susan Enfield was wrongful and unjustified for the following reasons:
- The entire community of Ingraham High School finds Martin Floe to be a highly effective principal who has turned a low-achieving school into a vital place of learning. He has implemented programs that motivate students by giving them engaging and exciting ways to pursue their academic dreams.
- No just cause has been given and there has been no transparency in the reasons for terminating Martin Floe.
- It was alleged that low math test scores were the reason for the termination. If low test scores were a factor it should be noted that this is a condition in many Seattle schools and can be attributed to mandated curricula. Firing an effective principal is no way to raise test scores.
- Firing Martin Floe demonstrates disregard for a highly effective principal, and for the community that staunchly supports him.
It is the School Board’s job to appoint principals. We ask that you use your authority to correct this wrongful action and rehire Martin Floe. Seattle Public Schools needs excellent principals like Martin Floe. We also need School Board leadership that respects and engages the entire community, upholds the policies of the district, and makes decisions in an open and collaborative manner.
