I am a resident of Roshnee, a suburb of Vereeniging which is inhabited by a historically disadvantaged community. One of the byproducts of apartheid was the setting up of an informal airport, called Aero Vaal, on the door step of Roshnee.
In the last few years, the activities at Aero Vaal have increased with a number of flight schools and aerial acrobatics clubs operating there from. These activities have brought untold discomfort to our lives. From six in the morning until late in the afternoons, we have these planes flying above our heads causing high levels of noise which is now becoming unbearable. Sitting outside our homes has become something of the past. Noise levels over the weekends has reached such alarming limits that it has become a dread for us to sit outside or even take a nap in the afternoons. There are three schools in our area and the noise directly impacts on learners at the schools especially when these planes take off and fly over the schools.
On behalf of the residents of Roshnee, we vehemently oppose and reject the activities carried out by Aero Vaal Airport, who have taken our community for granted.
Please sign this petition to make it known to our regional Council legislators, the Municipality of Vereeniging, Aero Vaal and the Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa that we want certain byelaws to be made and enforced which will prevent and curb these activities which are severely infringing upon our basic democratic and human rights. As a community we object to the following:
We humbly request your assistance by signing this petition.
