Save BBC Blast

Mark Thompson has identified Blast as a department that should be closed. Unlike 6 music and Asian Network however, Blast doesn't have any commercial rivals, because it's an outreach project with a comparatively tiny budget.

BBC Blast is a nationwide project like no other aimed at 13-19 year olds. It's the best and easiest way for young people to get a taste of the creative industries as it offers hundreds of work placements every year (more I'm told than any other BBC department).

The Blast website (www.bbc.co.uk/blast) is a site filled with creative ideas where young people can share their creativity with the world.

The nationwide tour, which visits over 30 locations each year, offers completely free workshops that not only help the young people taking part, but channels licence fee money back into the community by using the talents of local creatives to help run the workshops!

The justification that Thompson has given makes very little sense as Blast does not infringe on any commercial rivals terriotory. No other broadcaster offers these kinds of levels of opportunity for young people and so without Blast the burgeoning media careers of hundreds of people could be cut short before they've begun. Don't let Blast close - sign this petition!

And if you're feeling REALLY strongly about that - tell Michael Lyons at the BBC Trust how you feel. https://consultations.external.bbc.co.uk/departments/bbc/bbc-strategy-review/consultation/intro

Kelly Smith18TauntonIt's hard enough to get into the industry as it is. BBC Blast is invaluable to the future of the BBC as it is helping to develop and educate its future talent.

Serena Rudge19OxfordshirePlease save Blast. It means so much to so many people whom it has helped over the years in numerous ways. Have you ever written or created something that you were too scared to show people? BBC Blast lets us put our work out there for other people to see, and to get positive and constructive feedback on it. It would be a travesty if it were to be closed.

Carmen Midgley-EssexIt would be such a shame to see Blast go. It would be great if people would sign the petition to save BBC Switch too! (:
