Urge the WV House of Delegates to make NO MORE PORK BARREL requests for the coming budget year!
The struggling economy is making the state's budget hard to balance.
The Speaker of the House and the House Finance Chairman recognize this. In a letter to the members of the House of Delegates dated December 20, 2013, they said the state's budget is getting hard to balance and will require more budget reductions, hiring freezes, and the use of one-time revenues to balance the budget.
Because the state's budget is getting hard to balance the Pork Barrel Program known as the Community Participation Project Program would be eliminated according to the letter. This is a good move, but it's not enough!
The Speaker and the Finance Chairman are still encouraging Delegates to submit Pork Barrel requests as indicated in their letter, "As has always been the case, each member has the right, if not the responsibility, to make funding recommendations to us or directly to the Governor for any project in his or her district."
Ending the Pork Barrel Program was a good move, but encouraging the members to make Pork Barrel requests is contrary to their stated objective in the letter to balance the budget!
Making more Pork Barrel requests will make it harder to balance the budget because the temptation will still be there to increase spending. We need to eliminate as many temptations to increase spending as possible to balance the budget!
