Stop the LLC Tax

Opened on December 12, 2009 | Contact Petition Author

Andy Sanborn and Andrew Hemingway are two small business owners outraged by a new 13.5% tax the Governor is trying to impose. We created this site as a way for small business owners all over the state to join with us, and send a message loud and clear to Concord to STOP THE LLC TAX. We believe in the power of small business, we know that it is the small businesses that create jobs, stimulate the economy, and generate wealth. And we cannot sit by as our fragile economy is pushed farther over the edge. Please stand with us in STOPPING THE LLC TAX. Contact information: stopllctax@gmail.com Gov. Lynch, As a New Hampshire resident I am deeply concerned about the negative economic consequences of the proposed $30 Million tax, coming from a 5% tax increase on business owners/partners, in addition to the already existing 8.5% business profits tax for a total new tax increase of 13.5%. We all know that small businesses are the backbone of New Hampshire's economy and the engine of growth that could lead us out of this crippling recession by creating new jobs. However this tax will punish successful small businesses, the very same people the government has spent years trying to attract to our state. Further it will limit the ability of small companies to raise capital, expand, or hire new employees. This is exactly the wrong policy for our state. As Governor I urge you to do everything in your power to stop the implementation of this incredibly damaging tax increase. Sincerely,

Kimberly DevlinAntrimI was going to open an LLC for my small business, but now I do not think I will. This tax is a sneaky way to get an income tax.
John RaymondDerry, NHMy wife and I both worked in MA and now own separate small businesses in NH. We did this to avoid the bureaucracy of Taxachusetts. With razor thin margins of start-up businesses, New Hampshire is becoming "small business unfriendly". Please repeal this tax amendment

ThomasKeeneI am a very small one man LLC business owner, in which I do lawn maintenance and snowplowing after being laid off from my previous job. I can honestly say, I have ABSOLUTELY no margin for this 11 hr increase. Is it fair to me? NO I pay my share of IRS taxes, everything above my expenses as pay. I do agree that some bigger businesses that are set up as an LLC, who take salaries and dividends are creating this ugly bulls eye for LLC's. Big LLC law firms or medical practice's and the "mom and pop" business are on two different spectrums within the LLC.

SteveHollis NHIm 29 years old. I own a LLC. Isn't the idea to get this country going was to make more jobs? How can I, and why would I expand my LLC business and hire more people to work for me if I am only going to be penalized by taxes, where is my incentive? What happened to work hard and get ahead? Seems the only people who are getting ahead are the ones living off government assistance not working riding the system at our expense. We will just have to downgrade our businesses to trade names and DBA with no protection. SIGNED, THE PENALIZED GUY WHO GETS UP AND GOES TO WORK EVERYDAY FOR HIMSELF

Robert McIntoshLondonderry, NHNot only will this tax increase have an immediate negative impact on current small business, this will be detrimental to attracting new small business to the Granite State. As our federal government works on ways to decrease tax burden and stimulate growth, budget writers in NH are too focused on the additional 20 million in state revenue. The fact of the matter is, if you're worried about being fair, work on a budget to decrease tax for other corporations. This will send a message and stimulate industry on a wider scale. Laws of economics will make up the 20 million quicker.

Chris AikenNew LondonPlacing new taxes on job engines during difficult economic times compounds the problem. LLCs have been generating jobs successfully for many years in NH. This is a desperate and horribly timed move.

Patrick DevereauxConcord NHThis is said to be a tax that is fair because other forms of corporations are already paying this tax. While local congress is looking for standardization of entities government lacks accountability. Employment is a sign of a growing economy and there has bee very little growth to be shown.
JEROME MILLETSALEM, NHthis is an income tax - stop this
Christopher RingPortsmouthI am on the verge of opening a business after years of planning, but this tax is giving me second thoughts. I actually believe that NH should tax more - our infrastructure is a train wreck, not to mention any other problems - but this tax is just plain unfair. Seems to me it is designed to allow corporation more time to shirk their responsibilities
Jeff SudolManchesterThis whole issue sticks to high heaven. Taxing small businesses in this fashion is unfair and and will destroy the economy of this state. Way to go Lynch and his Deomcratic stooges!
Mary Ann WellsRaymond, NHBased on this tax, there's no incentive to reinvest in your own company. You may as well take full compensation and put it in savings to avoid the tax.
