Stop the LLC Tax

Opened on December 12, 2009 | Contact Petition Author

Andy Sanborn and Andrew Hemingway are two small business owners outraged by a new 13.5% tax the Governor is trying to impose. We created this site as a way for small business owners all over the state to join with us, and send a message loud and clear to Concord to STOP THE LLC TAX. We believe in the power of small business, we know that it is the small businesses that create jobs, stimulate the economy, and generate wealth. And we cannot sit by as our fragile economy is pushed farther over the edge. Please stand with us in STOPPING THE LLC TAX. Contact information: stopllctax@gmail.com Gov. Lynch, As a New Hampshire resident I am deeply concerned about the negative economic consequences of the proposed $30 Million tax, coming from a 5% tax increase on business owners/partners, in addition to the already existing 8.5% business profits tax for a total new tax increase of 13.5%. We all know that small businesses are the backbone of New Hampshire's economy and the engine of growth that could lead us out of this crippling recession by creating new jobs. However this tax will punish successful small businesses, the very same people the government has spent years trying to attract to our state. Further it will limit the ability of small companies to raise capital, expand, or hire new employees. This is exactly the wrong policy for our state. As Governor I urge you to do everything in your power to stop the implementation of this incredibly damaging tax increase. Sincerely,

Robert Foley40 Holmeswood rd.It should never be so easy to pass an additional tax on citizens of America, this should only occur as a last resort by our government. Unfortunately it has become the only solution that these cronies can come up with remeber all of this come election day...
Steven jonesAntrim NHAt this time a new tax would be devastating to small business owners

Cheryl DoucetteExeter NHFor healthcare provider LLCs this tax will negatively impact our ability to serve clients without insurance, or those with health plans that reimburse at a significantly lower rate!
Kristen GreaneyWeare, NHWe are a seasonal small business suffering enough trying to stay in business bad enough paying 9 percent rooms and meals tax on a Ice cream cone..we will end up going out of business if there are anymore taxes.
David Hibbardweare NHStop the taxes remember the Boston tea party!
Rebecca JonesBoscawen, NHI understand the desire to close a loop hole for larger businesses, but the vast majority of LLC's are barely scraping by. It seems that the leadership of this country is trying to eliminate small business in the name of reigning in the large ones. Please, don't pass another misguided bill that will put even more people out of business.
Paula M. BishopAntrimSpoke with my reps, (all democrats) but they don't seem interested in stopping the LLC tax - actually seemed surprised that I had something to say about it. Just opened a new store in Hillsborough, White Birch Gluten-Free Market and I think the timing of the tax, if nothing else, is very, very bad.

Darcie C MurdockHoldernessI am a small business owner - I am trying to stay alive in business as it is - more taxes will only put me under for sure!!!
Monetta SharpeHolderness, NHI am a nurse at a small community hospital; the amount of taxes that my husband and I had to pay in last year was more than I make. I would be better off unemployed. To even think about increasing the tax rate on small businesses is unjust. If you want the unemployment rate to increase, keep raising taxes.

Jason SharpeHolderness, NHWhat is this world coming to? What happen to live free or die. Looks like small businesses will crumble like the Old Man On the Mountain. The headache and expense to own a small business is not worth it!! If this state is looking to bankrupt some of the hardest working middle class taxpayers, I think you will be successful with this ridiculous new tax.

LisaBarringtonIt's very disturbing to think our Governor supports such a tax. Small business in NH are struggling tremendously. It looks like the State is imposing the death penalty on Small Businesses not criminals!
William MorrisDeering NHThis tax is disturbing and unexceptable !!Especially in the way it was brought about. It would seem to me that a real effort needs to be made to find out how exactly the inclusion of this tax took place in such short order and what exactly we can do to prevent it from happening again. The process of our system should include ALL
people, not just a few with a sneaky way of getting their way.
zachariah HeathwaiteManchesterMy company barely managed to make it through the economic downturn, and I fear this new tax on LLC's will severely harm us even more. What we need now is support. Please don't financially burden us (small businesses) so soon.

Lon HendersonSugar Hill, NH My LLC income is my family's primary income. The day I found out about the tax, I had just told my daughter we couldn't afford her school's team sweater. Yet as currently written, I have to retroactively come up with over a hundred sweaters-- this in a year of declining sales and rising fixed expenses.

My business already returns $2 in state and local taxes for every $1 I take home. Where's the fairness?

Please repeal the LLC tax.
Everett GilmanCenter Harbor"We The People" are "The Forgotten" with our Legislators! This tax increase must be defeated!

ShellyRochesterOur representatives don't care about struggling small business. They are only concerned with politics in Washington and keeping their job! How would they feel if they lost their benefits and job? They may feel it soon. VOTE THEM OUT!!!
Ronald ColumbLaconia,NHAlthough not an LLC, I am a sole propertior and do not support this or any legislation that contiues to drown small business owners in New Hampshire. Be advised that you, as well as all New Hampshire polital leaders are responsible for the fiancial well being of our state's businesses, large and small. You will be held accountable at election time.
JustinWellesIts time for the State of New Hampshire to start taking the measures that we as small business owners have had to. CUT BACK!
RANDY MONTAGUEPLYMOUTH,NH-
Matthew WilliamsRye, NHTo Gov. John Lynch and the Democratic NH Legislature - thanks for pushing small business growth away from NH! We are the very same companies who will be responsible for 70-80% of the job growth from which this state depends on. Your decision to implement this tax without the confidence of the people of this state, for which you are obligated to represent, is completely irresponsible. You've made it increasingly difficult for small business survival during this recession in which we already face high unemployment, rising health care insurance costs, and difficulty securing financing.
Christine GauthierCampton-
RichardSlocumThe basic of a LLC is that it is taxed as a partnership. We pay taxes at personal level. You should not mix the two concepts of partnership and corporation.
NOT RIGHT WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
Renee MillsLittleton, NHI am an employee of a small business owner, Gretchen Harvey. 2009 has already brought her business many financial troubles. I fear that a tax like this may force her to close before the end of 2010. I do not want to look for another job.
Joan S. ClayCamptonI own and opperate Clay's Chocolate Shop,LLC. This tax is irresponsible. Small businesses are the engine that keeps our ecconmy going. This tax will put me out of business. Five people will loose there jobs. We have cut cost every where we could. In the past two years the cost of everything we use to produce our products has risen. In this ecconomy we can not increase our prices and stay in business.
THE LLC TAX HAS TO GO! HAVE ANY OF YOU ACCUALLY OWNED AND OPPERATED A SMALL BUSINESS?
Chris R SpurgeonSpringfield-
brian belisleHooksettWe have cut corners in our company just to keep our heads above water, and along comes this tax to pull us under further. When you bleed small business, you bleed the economy for all.
Scott KeithHopkintonWhat they need to be doing is reducing costs rather than taxing more. The LLC tax will damage NH's economy as internet businesses relocate.
MarthaJane PeckAlton Bay NHIt is hardly worth the work my husband does now to continue his LLC. He lovingly restores old church organs that would otherwise be destroyed. Why would you want to close down a business with this outrageous tax that is doing something historically important? Banker CEOs and insurance company CEOs get millions in bonuses and hurt the rest of us, yet the little person doing something important to the world gets socked with a huge tax. No wonder people are just giving up. Where is the justice?
Robert A. PeckAlton Bay NHSmall business is the backbone of this country and state. People must have LLCs to protect their personal property. It is not fair to tax this protection. It is the equivalent of taxing someone for having insurance on their home.
Frank SantiagoDerry, NHFurther taxation during a time of financial instability is irresponsible. This tax will have a negative effect on NH's economic recovery. Do not implement this tax.
kristen Kinseysugar hill, nh-
Linda WhiteRollinsfordThis additional tax will just cause small business to let more employees go, then where will we be..more unenmployment!
State budget must be cut, less spending just like we have to do !! NO NEW TAX
Carolyn CloutierEpping, NHBET, BPT, when is enough, enough? Rein in your spending instead of killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
