Stop the LLC Tax

Opened on December 12, 2009 | Contact Petition Author

Andy Sanborn and Andrew Hemingway are two small business owners outraged by a new 13.5% tax the Governor is trying to impose. We created this site as a way for small business owners all over the state to join with us, and send a message loud and clear to Concord to STOP THE LLC TAX. We believe in the power of small business, we know that it is the small businesses that create jobs, stimulate the economy, and generate wealth. And we cannot sit by as our fragile economy is pushed farther over the edge. Please stand with us in STOPPING THE LLC TAX. Contact information: stopllctax@gmail.com Gov. Lynch, As a New Hampshire resident I am deeply concerned about the negative economic consequences of the proposed $30 Million tax, coming from a 5% tax increase on business owners/partners, in addition to the already existing 8.5% business profits tax for a total new tax increase of 13.5%. We all know that small businesses are the backbone of New Hampshire's economy and the engine of growth that could lead us out of this crippling recession by creating new jobs. However this tax will punish successful small businesses, the very same people the government has spent years trying to attract to our state. Further it will limit the ability of small companies to raise capital, expand, or hire new employees. This is exactly the wrong policy for our state. As Governor I urge you to do everything in your power to stop the implementation of this incredibly damaging tax increase. Sincerely,

david longlisbonwho was it that said "llc's have had a free ride for too long"? obviously not a small business owner. Tax time is already hard enough, can't imagine an additional 5%.
cheryl lassiterhamptonWhy is the income I receive from my investments taxed while wage income is not? Repeal the Interest and Dividends tax entirely!
Rick MarkielNashuaExpanding the impact of this LLC tax beyond what it already does is unforgiveable, especially in a down economy. Many NH small businesses are already in dire straits, fighting to survive. Higher Insurance costs, Higher energy costs, Higher costs to operate all the way around, etc. Where does it end? Remember in November - DON'T VOTE DEMOCRAT - and get this thing repealed, if need be.
robert beardn.suttonOur business includes a highly taxed piece of real estate, we pay substantial room and meals taxes (which were recently increased by 12.5%) and, of course, our current business enterprise tax. About 17% of our income goes to these various taxes, before Federal taxes. We simply cannot pass these on to our customers and remain competitive.

Does our government not have the courage to spread the tax burden fairly and evenly among all of its constituents?
Adam RossiNew Boston, NHLets keep NH a great place to start a small business.

Robert Drummond, Jr.HillsboroI am an owner of a small manufacturing company in Antrim along with my wife Betsy. We moved the business from New York 8 years ago because NY was tax heavy on people & businesses We moved to NH because it seemed to be the only state in the northeast that seemed to want businesses here. My wife currently runs an LLC for extra income. I find this tax to be characteristic of what is happening around the country squeezing dry the people & businesses that make this country great. At a time when people &businesses are hard pressed trying to make ends meet this tax is so stupid! Democrates out 2010
Elizabeth KruppPortsmouth, NHThis type of tax makes it impossible for small businesses to be competitive.
Peter A. BaileySunapeeThis was poorly thought out. The tax amounts to double taxation on entities where I already pay other states tax on my INCOME. Now when I distribute I pay a second time to NH on the DISTRIBUTIONS. I will fight this with all my resources but if unsuccessful, I will be leaving the state. Oh, and the jobs I create in the region will be lost as well. Very poorly thought out......
Craig D. ClausAlton, NHWhy do we continue to elect these tax-and-spenders? The best way to fight this is at the polls, by electing those that believe in limited government (if you can even find any).
Jennifer SiasMadison, NHI had envisioned one day opening my own business here, in the state where I am proud to say I was born and raised. If this goes through, I suppose I'll look elsewhere to a place that actually welcomes small businesses. It's disgusting and disheartening what you are doing to this once-great state of ours. If you all keep at it, we'll be no different than Maine or Massachusetts. For the love of God, stop it already!!! Please find a better (and legal) way of raising revenue... and oh, here's an idea... STOP SPENDING!!!
Joshua DrewPortsmouth, NHCreative Clicks, LLC. If this tax passes, my business is moving. No joke.
JANET LEE ALDRICHMANCHESTER NHNew Hampshire...Live free or die??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? So much for the small business people trying to make a difference. I too will be forced to go back to a sole proprietorship and start the process all over again..so much for the American Dream!!!
Ronald R FroizzellWMWV-North ConwayNH has escaped much of the recession due to a good evnironment.
This is a great way to end it!
StephenCantoneIf the government had to run itself like small business owners have to run their businesses, lean and mean, there would be no need for another tax on the working middle class. Unfortunately I don't have access to tax payers pockets to prop up my business when things start going bad. Things are bad, money is tight, everyone is scrambling to make it.......I know!!!! let's hit 'em with another tax , that should solve the problem. I guess common sense just isn't really that common.....especially for politicians. Maybe we should all move to Mexico,I hear it's almost empty now.
Tony AdamsNashuaThe shortsightedness of the legislature will have long-term consequences on small business in NH. Please stop this foolishness!

Robert FlandersNashua, NHI feel betrayed by our elected officials. If this passes, I will vote all republican. I will support any candidate running against a democrat.
Obadiah DartAmherstHow will business owners be any different from people living in MA? Do I get to only pay half of my inflated property taxes?
Conor SullivanNashuaThis tax is ironic because it seeks to alleviate the state's recession-induced budget deficit by hindering small businesses from both taking root and growing. Consequently, such a tax will increase the budget deficit. Our state leaders are idiots.
John SizemoreNew BostonRepeal this law and stop spending money Mr. Lynch and Company! More taxes only leads to more government and more spending.
Jeff DowHoldernessI would rather switch my business to a sole proprietorship and spend more on liability insurance then pay more taxes. We all have to cut back to make ends meet, I wish the state could do the same instead of sticking it to the small businesses.
Thomas DurandNashuaThis is not how I elected you to represent me. If you vote for this I will vote against you. Taxing small business is bad for our economy, period.
ErinDurandThere has to be a better way to raise tax revenue than to increase them against small businesses. This could very easily be putting people out of jobs - how does THAT increase the tax revenue for the state?

Scott & Stacy KeenanHillsboroughLife is hard enough, do you have to do this?
James J. FontaineAlton, NHSmall businesses are not only the backbone of New Hampshire's economy, but are fueling America's overall recovery. Additional taxes on small business will ultimately cause job losses, increased business failures, and give small business owners a reason to move to other truly small business-friendly states leaving NH no better off. As a responsible business owner, if I can't afford a product or service, I do without. Governor Lynch, you can and must set the example: NH must stop spending money it does not have and keep its hands out of the pockets of small business owners.

Patricia InnisMoultonboroughWe will move our business to Florida if this goes through. Stop this insanity. If this is not vetoed NH tax revenues from these businesses will be moved to other states and NH will lose a lot of revenue and jobs.
Kenneth E JohnsonHollis, NHI have worked for 3 years to launch my start up company here in NH. This is a kick in the teeth to those of us slaving to make a go of it and make jobs in this bad economy. The state of NH budget has doubled since the Democrats came into power. The answer is simple. STOP SPENDING WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE!
No New Taxes!
GilCoffeyI was planning to start a LLC in NH this year but this issue has stopped me dead in my tracks. I guess I'll plan to set it up in MA.
Charles ChristensenMeredith NHI will close my business before I pay this tax

Jeffrey RandHillsboroughThe state needs to cut spending and stop robbing the job producers!
Carmyn YoungHillsboroI thought our greatest priority in the Country as well as our State was the economy and creating jobs--LLC is totally contrary to this priority--So with this small businesses will go under and jobs are then gone and everybody will move towards unemployment and being unproductive--I don't believe that should be a goal for NH or our used to be GREAT USA. Let's turn it around by LESS SPENDING and fewer COMMITTEES. We the people do not need micromanaging through useless laws and committees. Carmyn Young
Michael J. OrtliebDover, NHI am an attorney in a small firm, and I vote.
Tom RobertsWolfeboro, NHAnother NH back-door tax because the legislature will not address the major issues related to our tax system.
Edward A. BakerLondonderryThis is not smart. It is just income tax in another form. What happened to Tax free? I pay the Federal Gov't as it is (with no benefits!).
Eugene F Leone JrWolfeboroThis is just a bandaid to lie about not having an income tax. The N. H. tax system is probably the most unfair of all 50 states. I do not know how the representatives sleep at night with such a an unfair system.
Laura El-AzemLondonderry-
MARK HOURIHANEROCHESTERI am a small business owner in the Seacoast. I understand that the State has a revenue problem and must identify new sources to continue to fund services. Increasing taxes on small business is probably the most damaging way to do this, and will probably end up costing the State instead of the intended gain. I strongly believe that expanded gaming in our State needs to be agressively pursued...and that we recognize gaming as a source of revenue.
Brian Kelley Sr.Somersworth, NHI believe this tax is unfair to small businesses in the State of NH. We are taxed enough as it is and adding this tax will put a number of small businesses out of business. If that is what you want you will get your wish.
Diane DeVriesDover, NHMy five year old business serves nearly 100 other small businesses in the Seacoast area. I'm concerned the LLC tax would be a detriment to the growth of my business, and the ability to serve my colleagues in the same manner I have in the past.
Larry ConcannonAmherst, NHNo. Simply no. The people of NH do not want an income tax. You can put it on just some people (ex. LLC owners), but we know that it will eventually hit everyone. LLCs are small businesses. Politicians are always talking about helping small business. Time to back up that talk by killing the LLC tax..
