Local police forces in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire are exploring options to privatise policing support services. They are looking to outsource these services to G4S, the world's largest security firm. The same firm that has just failed to secure its own world with the Olympics. As a result, 3,500 soldiers will stand in for G4S.
Is this the service you want from your local police force?
UNISON, the UK’s leading public service trade union, is opposing these plans because we believe they are flawed, have no proper business case or public support and could lead to:
- Private Companies putting profit and shareholders before public need.
- Reduced public accountability as many police service staff will work for a private company and will no longer come under the jurisdiction of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
We are asking the Police Authority or the elected Police Crime Commissioner (PCC) to STOP THE PRIVATISATION plan. Please add your name to our petition and help us speak up against these plans.
Herts wording:
Local police forces in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire are exploring options to privatise a wide range of police support services. They are looking to outsource these services to private companies such as G4S. Warranted Officers rely on Police Staff to enable them to undertake their duties. G4S, the world's largest security firm is the same firm that has just failed in its contractual obligations to provide Security for the 2012 Olympics. As a result, 3,500 soldiers and additional Local Police Officers will stand in for G4S.
Is this the kind of service you want from your local police force?
UNISON, the UK’s leading public service trade union, is opposing these plans because we believe they are flawed, have no proper business case or public support and could lead to:
- Private Companies putting profit and shareholders before public need.
- Chief Constables losing flexibility and operational control over staff.
- Reduced public accountability as many police service staff will work for a private company and will no longer come under the jurisdiction of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
We are asking the Police Authority or the elected Police Crime Commissioner (PCC) to STOP THE PRIVATISATION plan. Hertfordshire Police Authority have stated that they have no plans to consult the Public at this time.
