For 44 million people, Medicare is necessary to get proper healthcare. Medicare uses Social Security numbers to identify senior citizens and people with disabilities, which sets them up to be victims of Identity Theft - the fastest growing crime in the United States. Medicare identifies seniors and people with disabilities by their SSN on their Medicare cards, in medical records stored in clouds online and in hospital charts. This is unacceptable and makes seniors and people with disabilities prime targets for hackers and thieves who can use this information to steal their identities. This affects both the senior or person(s) with disabilities who is in jeopardy of losing their entire life savings as well as the American taxpayer and society as a whole.  The social costs for this careless system are enormous, impacting family members and government funded services. A new method of  classification of alternate identifiers must be used in lieu of this outdated and irresponsible current system.  We must pass legislation to stop Medicare from using Social Security Numbers as identifiers -  not just on beneficiary's cards - but also any place that is exposed to the risk of Identity Theft, which includes medical charts and electronic medical records.
